Our client design and manufacture precision forged and machined components and are currently recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer to join their team. As a Design Engineer you will become accountable for successful forging product design and associated processing activities relating to design. It is key that the individual fully adheres to both internal and external standards at this level.

 

Hours of work will be 07:30 – 16:30 (Mon – Thurs) and 07:30 – 12:30 (Friday). Salary upto £40,000 per annum dependent upon experience plus competitive benefits package.

 

Reporting directly to the Material Design Engineering Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Driving the Design Team objectives of transferring customer information into unique methods and process designs that ensure commitments are met to customers both internally and externally.
  • Utilise 3D Modelling to achieve efficient design and drawing generation to support customer and production requirements.
  • Interpret customer forging or machined part drawings or models to generate efficient forging designs from billet, through pre-form shapes to finished forgings and machined components.
  • Utilise customer specifications, national guidelines, and quality standards for generating compliant designs, working cross functionally with all stakeholders to succeed.
  • Work with the customer to realise best configuration of component considering all requirements.
  • Build an understanding of Design for Manufacture applying practice to products in a structured and methodical way.
  • Utilizing simulation software Q-Form to optimize design and process.
  • Further develop process best practices and support progression of both knowledge and technology to support more virtual work to prove out designs
  • Participate in NPI activities
  • Work with CAM Engineers to ensure consistent standards and improve status-quo with regard to tooling design
  • Work with Business Development to generate new proposals for tender ensuring feasibility  

 

 

To be successful in the role of Design Engineer, you may have previously worked as a Product Engineer or CAD/CAM Engineer and you will possess the following skills and experience:

 

  • Proven track record of using NX CAD/CAM software, or equivalent other software packages.
  • Understanding of elastic/plastic deformation of materials desirable.
  • Knowledge of forging and/or manufacturing processes desirable.
  • Minimum HND Certificate. Can be working towards or equivalent experience considered.

 

This position is based near Redditch and is easily commutable from Droitwich, Bromsgrove, Alcester, Studley, South Birmingham, Solihull, Worcester, Kidderminster, and Stourbridge.
