Swift Placement's are currently working with a well known, well established client in the Haydock Area who are recruiting for a Site Engineer to join the team. Job Purpose:

To ensure all machinery is maintained in a safe working condition

To plan and control all engineering activity on a day-to-day basis and to establish a longer-term engineering strategy to ensure continuity of manufacturing in the short term and facilitate expansion of output in the longer term using best practice, within allocated budget constraints

To maximize the efficiency of the production lines

Job Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that a Preventative Maintenance Plan is achieve by maximizing available downtime during shutdown periods.
  • To design & publish a planned preventative maintenance plan and introduce the plan to reduce the machine breakdown lost time.
  • To ensure the allocation of resources is secured on a just in time basis, preventing a buildup of none essential spares.
  • To negotiate with supplier’s minimum –reorder levels, optimize lead times for delivery and maximize payment terms under contract.
  • To determine business critical spares and ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • To establish and maintain a business-critical spares document.
  • To develop and maintain a preferred supplier register based on quality and price to ensure maximisation of budget allocation.
  • To liaise with the Operations team to ensure that any maintenance carried out is done so in such a manner that it keeps to a minimum the production lost, and machine down time and time that Engineering have ‘control’ of the Machines.
  • To liaise with the Site Production Manager to evaluate the effect on production efficiency of machine breakdown lost time.
  • To develop and agree objectives for engineering.
  • To ensure that all expenditures are in line with budget, develop an annual budget and determine consequential business targets.
  • To identify and prepare capital proposals and ensure all expenditure is controlled within budget and the constraints.
  • To monitor and control energy consumption in the plant to ensure optimum utilization
  • To lead or participate in various adhoc projects that may involve multidisciplinary teams that consider certain current problems. /Initiatives as a means of improving overall business efficiency.
  • To support the Site Production Manager and other members of the management team as required

Person Specification:


· Highly decisive Team Player

· Strong delegation skills.

· Effective communicator, who has respect from peers and team

· Effective motivator

· Strong emotive control and effective crisis management skills.

· Numerate and proven problem solving skills

· Previous proven experience within area at management level ideally for over 3 years.

· Knowledge of Health & Safety specific to safety of machinery

Additional Note:

This is a day shift position but requires flexibility to cover those hours necessary to meet the requirements of the business. Therefore, the applicant has to be prepared to work weekends, nights, etc., as a means of resolving business issues.
